Gerald Sullivan in a July 26, 2012 Providence Journal article about PC’s new Ruane Center:

“Since Gothic architecture is as much about light as it is about space, the building is able to permit large amounts of light into the interior — similar to modern glass buildings. But unlike its modern counterparts, it allows for intricate detailing that reflects the strong Dominican tradition rooted in the humanities. It is through these details executed in masonry that the building strives to project a sense of awe and permanence suitable for the learning that will occur on the interior.”
