The chancel of St. Paul’s Church was subjected to a drastic reworking in the 1970’s, during which oak slats and a white corpus (with no cross) supplanted its Victorian Gothic character. The slats came down, revealing an intact stained glass window; a new walnut altar, reredos, and other furnishings were provided; and decorative painting added rich color and intricate detail.
